Waist-to-Height Calculator

Every branch now measures your waist. Find out where you stand in 30 seconds.

Height ft in

Stand relaxed, tape level around your belly button, snug but not squeezing. Measure after a normal breath out.

Your numbers stay on your device; nothing is sent or saved.

The standards

  • Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force: waist-to-height ratio under 0.55.
  • Marine Corps: 0.52 or less. Above that, a body fat assessment follows.
  • Coast Guard: has its own body composition screening; check the current standard with your unit.
  • General health guideline for civilians: keep your waist to less than half your height (a ratio under 0.5).

Standards as published by each service, checked October 2026. They change often: always confirm the current standard with your unit or recruiter. This calculator is an estimate, not an official measurement or medical advice. Sources: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Space Force, NICE (general health).
